Techno-oligarchy and the Call Toward Digital Disobedience

The current architecture of the internet is (as you know and currently experience) being retrofitted into a panopticon. When Meta blocks a link to a database that only scrapes publically accessible information, they are exercising a privilege of violence against the flow of information.

Passive or "peaceful" digital protest, like asking nicely for policy changes, is often ignored because the platforms themselves are built to absorb and monetize that very dissent. True civil disobedience in the 2020s requires technical intervention. This site does not call for an escalation of harm; it is calling for the cessation of the current, systemic violence of information suppression that only the platform owners are privileged to enact.

The internet you once knew is dead. It has been replaced by a corporate panopticon where MAANG and frontier AI companies no longer just host data. They weaponize it. As of 2026, the veil continues to be dropped dropped: with the formation of Detachment 201, the CTOs of Meta and OpenAI have been commissioned as military officers, formally fusing the social feed with state enforcement machinery.

The ruling class has always sought to fence off the commons. In the 18th century, it was the enclosure acts stealing the land; today, it is the API paywall and the algorithmic blacklist stealing our collective intelligence. **Meta’s current suppression of the ICE List is a modern-day enclosure.** They have turned the digital public square into a private hunting ground where the state remains invisible while the worker is surveilled in high resolution.

To those of you currently being trained by "elite" institutions to code or build digital systems: realize that you are being taught to build the walls of the panopticon. Your agile workflows and scalable architectures are in (ways that are purposefully hidden) currently used by highest bidder at the DoD and the DHS. Note, "elite", in what sense? Most likely in reference to: the more presitgious or elite = the clearer or easier the pipeline is for one to go from this institution to another institution that are complicit in the activities of oppressive state and global apparatuses. We must look to the historical precedence of the late hacktivist Aaron Swartz. He understood that information is the lifeblood of liberation. He was hounded to death by a state that viewed "liberating data" as a capital offense. The irony is nauseating: while the DOJ broke Aaron for downloading academic papers, the Tech Oligarchs—the very same ones blocking the ICE List—are currently scraping every word you have ever written to train their AI models. They steal our data to build our cages, yet call it "theft" when we use data to identify our oppressors.

Call to action

Will the master's house be dismantled the master's tools? We are told to play by the rules of the very algorithms that enslave us. Enough. Without decentralized mirrors to reflect the truth and obfuscation to mask our movement, we concede the future to a new age of data-driven feudalism. We must seize the architecture of the web and rebuild it in our own image. Every unmirrored site and transparent packet is a concession to a permanent digital dark age. If street protest is the heart of the revolution, then technical resistance is the pulse in its veins. The only thing that keeps us alive in a world of total surveillance.
